Health Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry

Did you know that cosmetic dentistry can offer benefits beyond aesthetics?  Taking the time to correct cracked, chipped, and misaligned teeth can improve your overall health too!  Here are a few of the health benefits that cosmetic dental services have to offer.

Reduce Your Risk Of:

  • Periodontal Disease – By addressing structural issues and overcrowding, it is easier to keep your smile free of plaque-inducing bacteria.
  • Tooth Decay – Crowns and bonding protect chipped or damaged teeth.  This can help keep bacteria out of hard to clean crevices.
  • Heart Disease – There are several studies showing a link between periodontal disease and heart disease.  Scientists believe that the same bacteria that cause plaque to develop on your teeth can cause plaque to build in your arteries.
  • Stroke – There are also several studies that show that oral infection can be a risk factor for stroke.

Those that take the time to improve the appearance of their smile are more likely to maintain good oral health habits to keep their smile beautiful.  Contact Perfect Smile Maker to determine if a cosmetic dental service is the right choice for your smile.  Our extremely-skilled cosmetic dentist, Dr. Stewart Brody, will assist you with all of your dental problems no matter how minor or negligible they may be.  Call 516-482-2215 to schedule a consultation at our Great Neck office.

Improve Smile Alignment with Invisalign

Invisalign_alignerA smile is one of the first things you notice when you meet someone new.  When you are happy with the appearance of your smile, you appear confident and happy.  We want all of our patients to love their smiles!  Invisalign is a great way to improve your cosmetic smile alignment .  Here are just a few of the benefits Invisalign has to offer. Benefits of Invisalign:

  • Appearance – The aligners appear virtually invisible when placed over your smile.  Unlike metallic braces, Invisalign is made from a clear plastic that doesn’t show up in photographs and is not noticeable in conversation.
  • Comfort – There are no brackets or wires.  The plastic aligners are smooth and fit comfortably over your smile.
  • Diet – Unlike with traditional braces, Invisalign aligners are removed during meals.  This means that you don’t have dietary restrictions while you straighten your teeth.  Just don’t forget to brush and floss after!
  • Health – Smile alignment also improves your overall oral health.  People who are happier with the appearance of their smile are more likely to continue to care for it after their treatment!

Teeth Whitening Benefits

It’s no surprise that teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry services.  Coffee, soda, smoking and aging can all cause unwanted discoloration.  While there are several over-the-counter whitening trays, toothpastes, and strips, the best way to find dramatic and lasting results is with custom teeth whitening trays. Benefits of Teeth Whitening:
  • Confidence – When people are happy with the appearance of their smile, they are more likely to feel confident when smiling and talking to others.
  • Long Lasting – Custom teeth whitening trays are designed for your unique smile.  They are reusable and can keep your smile bright for a long time to come.
  • Oral Health – When people are happier with the appearance of their smile they are more likely to keep it that way with regular brushing and flossing.  Even though teeth whitening is a cosmetic service, it can have health benefits too!
  • Anti-Aging – Teeth whitening is a great way to create a more youthful appearance.
  • Restorations – Are you looking to restore the appearance of your smile with a crown or veneers?  Many patients opt for teeth whitening procedures prior to their restoration.  The restorations are then customized to match your bright new smile.
These are just a few of the benefits teeth whitening can have for your smile.  Call 516-482-2215 to learn more about the professional teeth whitening services at Perfect Smile Maker.  We are happy to help you determine if teeth whitening is the right cosmetic dental service for your smile.  Present a copy of this attached coupon at your initial visit for $100 off of your teeth whitening system.

Why you have to be careful of what you eat

I’m very excited, I am making my first post today about how eating right can mean a world of difference to your dental health. The summer, especially, can be a harrowing time for our teeth and gums because the great weather means we are all eating/drinking more fruity and sugar foods/drinks. I know I love ice cream and frozen coffee drinks as much as anyone, but the increased sugar intake can be very dangerous for your teeth and gums. A key to knowing how much damage different food/beverages are doing to your teeth is: “the simpler the sugar, the more damage”. Simple sugars (like the ones in soda and candy) give the bacteria that live in your mouth easy access to energy which promotes growth and multiplication of these dangerous organisms. When you have too much bacteria in your mouth the likelihood of cavities and gum disease is severe. A by-product of having more bacteria in your mouth is that it tends to create a more acidic environment.
            Rotten Teeth
If you’re not careful your teeth will look like this
Eating  and drinking more acidic choices tend to create more problems for your teeth and gums because high acid foods/drinks erode enamel. Examples of acidic beverages include sodas, energy drinks, citrus fruits and drinks (ie Orange Juice) and sports drinks to name a few. I hope you found this informative and interesting, and if you think you may be at risk for developing cavities or gum disease please visit your dentist as early as possible to promote the health of your teeth and gums.
