Tooth Staining Foods and Drinks to Avoid

iStock_000004384242_FullWant to keep your teeth bright? There are certain foods and drinks you might want to avoid! In addition to maintaining great brushing and flossing habits and visiting our office for bi-annual cleanings and exams, you can keep your teeth white by avoiding these tooth staining foods and beverages.

Tooth Staining Foods and Drinks:

 • Wine – Red and white wine are both very acidic beverages. They are notorious for staining teeth.
 • Tea – Black tea is high in tannins that stain teeth. Tea can even be worse at staining teeth than coffee, which is chromogen-rich, but low in tannins. Herbal, green, and white teas are a better choice when looking to avoid tooth stains.
 • Soda – Acidic and chromogen-rich, cola can cause significant staining. Even light-colored soft drinks are acidic enough to promote tooth staining.
 • Sweets – Hard candies, chewing gum, and other sweets often contain ingredients that can stain your teeth.
 • Berries – Blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, cherries, grapes, pomegranates, and other intensely colored fruits can cause stains.

We also offer cosmetic teeth whitening to any patients that want to remove tooth stains and brighten the appearance of their smiles. Call 516-482-2215 to schedule an appointment at Perfect Smile Maker.

Dental Implants vs. Dentures: Which is the Right Choice for your Smile?

<img data-id=”577″ src=”http://perfectsmilemaker.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/asdf5.jpg” alt=”asdf” width=”300″ height=”224″ class=”alignright size-full wp-image-577″ />Dental implants and dentures are among the most popular restorative options available to patients with missing or extracted teeth. While they are both a great way to replace a smile gap and improve your oral health, each dental service has its own unique benefits, according to specialists working at Oxford Dental Care of Idaho Falls. Here are a few of the main differences between dental implant procedures and denture procedures.

Implants vs. Dentures:

Placement Process

Dental Implants – Dental implants are unique in that they are attached directly to your jawbone. This provides stability that many other restoratives don’t have.

Dentures – During your first appointment, an impression is taken of your jaw and tooth structure. A mold is then created and a final cast is custom designed for your smile.

Recovery Time

Dental Implants – The jaw bone needs to heal around the implant after placement. This process, known as osseo-integration, may take anywhere from 3-6 months to complete.

Dentures – Immediate dentures are placed immediately after tooth extraction and are adjusted periodically as your gums heal. Conventional dentures are placed after your gums have healed, approximately six to eight weeks after extraction.

Longevity

Dental Implants – Dental implants are a more expensive option. However, they are designed to last a lifetime.

Dentures – This restorative is often more affordable. Since they are removable, they may be lost or need adjustments over time.

Appearance

Dental Implants – Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth or several teeth. However, each implant stands alone. Implants are designed to look and feel just like a natural tooth.

Dentures – Dentures are custom designed for your smile, but they are removable. Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces

Want to improve your smile alignment? Invisalign is a great way to cosmetically align your teeth! If you’re not sure if Invisalign is the right choice for you, we encourage you to learn more about how Invisalign differs from other orthodontic options like traditional metal or clear braces. Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces. Appearance – Traditional braces are comprised of metallic colored brackets attached to each individual tooth. Similarly, clear braces use the bracket structure, but are designed to match the color of your teeth. Invisalign aligners differ in that they are pretty much clear braces designed to look invisible on the surface of your teeth. There are no brackets involved, only a clear tray that fits over your Flexibility – Invisalign aligners can be removed during meals and for cleaning. On the other hand, traditional adult braces are permanently in place during your treatment. Habits – With traditional braces, patients need to alter their eating and oral health care habits for their new braces. Since Invisalign is removable, there is no need to alter your habits. Alignment – Invisalign is used to cosmetically improve tooth alignment. Traditional braces are often a better choice for patients with severe bite and misalignment issues. Visit our website to learn more about Invisalign aligners. You can also call 516-482-2215 and schedule an appointment at https://civinsmiles.com/ CivinSmiles.com to visit Stewart Brody, DDS to determine if Invisalign is the right orthodontic solution or your alignment needs.

Advantages of Professional Teeth Whitening

A person’s smile is an important part of their appearance and can even affect how comfortable they are in social situations, so a great smile is key. If you are thinking about whitening your teeth, there are generally two options available to you. One of the solutions is to have your teeth whitening treatments done by going to your family dental office. This is categorized as professional, or in-office. The other is to choose to utilize a do it yourself whitening treatment that you can buy in a store. People usually ask which option is best. While both methods are effective, there are pros and cons depending on which you choose. The different types of treatment fit different needs. Once you take into account the safety and professional care involved with an in-office treatment, having a dentist whiten your teeth seems like the smart choice.

Advantages of Professional Teeth Whitening; First, if you want a quicker, more convenient result from your teeth whitening solution, heading to a dentistry to get a whitening treatment is the way to go. Your teeth will be whiter immediately after a treatment. These in-office types of treatments are a good choice to save time for busy people.

A person’s whitening therapy is usually completed in just a few appointments, possibly even just one. Another advantage of conducting dentist whitening is that the dentist can offer professional advice about the proper use of whitening gels. The concentration of peroxide you will find in any whitening product you may find is quite strong in both the in-store home whitening kits and the whitening treatments done in the dental office, so the procedure is better to be supervised by a professional than to be performed alone at home and services like Zahnarzt Bern could be really helpful for this.

The professional teeth whitening process begins with a minor step of cleaning and removal of any plaque along the gum line. Once this has been done, a peroxide based gel will be used on the teeth. This gel has a professional strength formula that guarantees that the laser will achieve the maximum possible amount of teeth whitening – more than what can be achieved by whitening the teeth at home. Additionally if you have sensitive teeth, laser whitening can be a better option.

This specialized type of treatment is usually finished in a single appointment, reducing the number of times a bleaching gel would have to be used. This makes it an excellent option for people with sensitive teeth, but who also wish for more quicker results. Want to know about teeth whitening

Dental Whitening Costs; As with any kind of new technology, professional teeth whitening gradually become more affordable every day. A large number of dentists even provide reduced prices for tooth whitening services as a method of drawing more new patients to their practice.

Generally speaking, if your budget can afford a professional solution and you really want an outstanding result, then it is highly recommended to use a professional tooth whitening method with a qualified professional. In-office treatments have been proven to be the safest and the most effective way to ensure you get your smile exactly the way you want, with results that will last.

Root Canal Therapy

Patents notoriously dread visiting the dentist for a root canal. However, new advancements in dental technologies and procedures have made Root Canal Therapy a simple and painless process! Since we want patients to feel comfortable and confident during their visit, we encourage you to learn more about what Root Canal Therapy entails. Understanding the Process:<!–mep-nl–>Local Anesthetic is Applied– Local anesthetic is applied to the tooth so that patients are comfortable during the procedure. Infected Nerves are Removed – A small access opening is created at the top of the tooth so that the infected pulp can be removed.<!–mep-nl–>Canal is Reshaped – During the same visit, the canal where the nerve is located will be reshaped and prepared to accept a special root canal filling material.<!–mep-nl–><!–mep-nl–>Filling the Tooth – During your next visit, the tooth is sealed with a sterile, plastic material called gutta percha. <!–mep-nl–><!–mep-nl–>This prevents any future infections!<!–mep-nl–>Extraction is only a last resort, even for wisdom teeth removal, you don’t have to take them out unless they are compromising your other teeth. Root Canal Therapy helps restore your natural tooth and your smile health. Visit our website to learn more about Root Canal Therapy or call 516-482-2215 to contact Perfect Smile Maker to schedule an appointment for a consultation.
